Not sure if this is the exact model, but woot had 2, yes 2, of these for $150 last night. Kick yourself for not being one of those lucky 2.

if you want to upgrade your tivo, I'd suggest a seagate SV35 series instead, they are made specifically for DVRs and video recording.

That's not going to work on the HD tivo, only on the series 3...

I got one of these in '99 and the damned thing is still working, (after several HDD upgrades). I payed a boatload of cash at the time but I don't think I would spend even this today. Cablecos give a DVR so cheap it's hard to go with Tivo and their sub fees, even with their great interface and other nice features.

#4 - Really? Because that's the setup I have. 166 hours of HD.

It only works with cable or OTA (there are no video line ins). As for upgradeability, the drive in #1 will work just fine and upgrading these is even easier - there is a windows app.

Looking at their site, Tivo monthly rate of $12.95? Then $208 for the DVR? I have never used Tivo, but it seems like a TV card would accomplish the same thing. Without the monthly fee, Windows/Vista MC downloads the guides and lets you record single programs or series.

I love my HD TiVo. And I love it more now that I can use it to download unlimited Netflix movies.

Tivo is great, but they really need to focus on getting their software into other people's DVR's. Their pricing is just too expensive now.

yes franco, you just need a cablecard from comcast if you want to get channels in HD. Which is a considerable hassle in some cases.

bladerider, what's the name of that windows TiVo HD upgrade app? I have this model of tivo and it'd be nice to throw a cheap bigger capacity HD in it.

I got the cable cards from Cablevision without any hassle. I had to pay a $40 installation fee, but was able to get rid of the cable box and associated rental fees. It's worth it just to have one less box under the TV.

Love Tivo. Very friendly. Waiting for the HD Tivos to drop in price a little myself.
