Don't know about the value of the Premiere package, we just have a basic HD Tivo and use it constantly. We bought the inexpensive box and then added a big hard drive. We also got the lifetime service, so it's been a cheap means of time-shifting.

I also have a Slingbox tapped in so I can see the Tivo recordings from any computer screen.

#2, the lifetime subscriptions are rather expensive now. With a multi-unit discount I cannot buy a basic Premiere box with Lifetime for less than $500.

I would upgrade at least one of my older boxes but can't justify that much money for only a slight benefit.

i'm a bit of a tivo fan. the premiere's gui is an improvement over the HD model. the premier includes apps for youtube, netflix, hulu and amazon for video streaming. the issue with the lifetime subscription is a long standing complaint with them. they occasionally offer a transfer program. it has popped up a few times. i'd suggest calling.

The first purchase is pretty easy. The upgrade is tough. I have multiple TiVos, one of which is a Premiere and I do like it a lot. So, this new purchase to replace a HD will mean I'll try to sell the HD with its lifetime service. Hoping to get close to the $400 value the LT is worth.
The premiere now gets On Demand on Comcast networks depending on area, and it can be controlled nicely from an iPad. The 4 tuners can eliminate the need for a second box for those times 3 or 4 shows are on at the same time. Comcast second room DVR was something like $25/mo, so eventually the TiVo pays for itself.

now i could be wrong. but i believe these new tivo boxes REQUIRE you to have cable. i swear i read somewhere that the new ones wont work with OTA antenna feeds. I have 2 tivo premiers and i regularly cancel cable when certain sports seasons end..

i cant comment on the premier receiving OTA. i'm almost certain there was OTA option when i did the initial setup. its been a while and i was not interested so i breezed over it. i do know for sure my friend who is using my previous series 3 has been using it for OTA with out cable cards for more then a year
