I just received this 80 hour Tivo as a replacement to a failed 40 hour unit. This is a pretty good deal because you own the tivo. You do not need a phone line anymore. It can setup with a wireless or wired access to your home network, straight out of the box.

Be aware that you might have a problem transferring any saved programs to your computer with the TivoDesktop software. It caused my Tivo to continually restart. Hopefully Tivo will have a fix for that sometime.

You get the rebate after you have been subscribed to the TIVO service for 30 days.

After 30 days you cannot cancel the TIVO service.

Therefore, the TIVO unit is free only if you sign up for one of the TIVO subscriptions. No Subscription ->no rebate!

Beware the TIVO rebates. I've read about many complaints. I sent in my rebate with the UPC stapled to the rebate form, and then waited 4 months for the rebate and finally called them. The lady answering said it was rejected because there was no UPC code enclosed. I said, "wait! I've got a xerox of the UPC staped to the form!!!". Her response was. "Oh,... well I'll allow the rebate then."

I think these guys are rejecting rebates (or an arbitrary percentage of them) and hoping people will have forgotten sending them in.

You can still buy lifetime membership TIVOs on Ebay if you hate the thought of paying a monthly fee. TIVO discontinued the option for lifetime membership but grandfathered in those people who already paid it. Worth considering if you don't mind an older or potentially used model.

I think this deal is even better than the one that TiVo is running directly from their website.

I have a 40 hour TiVo with a lifetime membership. I wouldn't mind getting a newer one but I just don't want to have yet another monthly bill or however they have it set up. Hopefully, they'll go back to the lifetime memberships on a future model.

The deal from a few weeks ago that Ben ran was nice. It was this unit for $154 with free year of subscription with no rebates. Getting ready to replace 80GB with 300. Hooray beer!

Great if you don't have satellite you can only record one program at a time.

#13, not true. If you have "Regular" cable (no cable box) you can record two channels. If you have cable box/satellite only one of those at a time.

Cadaver, you are wrong. This Tivo can only tune into 1 channel at a time....therefore you can only record one channel at a time. However, you can watch another channel through your TV when the tivo is recording if you split the signal (or you can watch a saved program while it is recoring). Also, $13 a month for a year is approximately the same as $154. The only difference is dealing with the rebate on this one.

#16. You are wrong. It has two tuners and can RECORD two programs at once. I just rechecked the manual and it says, "The TiVo Series2 DT can record two basic cable channels (typically 1-99) at the same time." Check it yourself. I have recorded two programs at once. Do you have this unit?

its not equipement and 1yr service for $220 minus rebate.. its more, you'll get the $220 rebate only if u subscribe to at least a yr of service at $13/month..

the offer on tivo.com is a better deal
