If TiVo wants to stay relevant, they need to start giving the hardware away with service; and I'm not talking about waiting on a burp rebate check. I am saying that when I sign a service contract - you ship me the burp hardware.
Come on TiVo, get with the burp program!
sincerely,
toddsucks
Does this Dual tuner monthly service cost more than the single tuner monthly service?
I completely agree with you #1
Could you please link to a copy of this "program". I'd like to be able to judge just how far away from being "with it" that TiVo is, too!
Holy crap. Toddsux wrote something that was not completely useless.
The Dual tuner counts as a single Tivo for Tivo Service. But who wants an analog tivo when they are going to be obsolete 2 years, well they really are now. As for being "With it" once Tivo has Multi Room viewing and Tivo to go on the Digital Series 3(two feature on Series 2 that are not on Series 3) they will once again be "With It"
Cost is the same, #2.
As for toddsucks, yes he does.
I agree with #5. It's pretty astonishing that TiVo still doesn't make a non-HD (ie. inexpensive) box with a QAM (digital cable) tuner.
I own two of the Series 3 boxes, and would love to have MultiRoom viewing between them as well.
The only thing keeping TiVo in business is the die-hard TiVo interface fans. I know a guy who has been offered free HD PVRs from the cable company, only to turn them down in favor of his analog TiVo because the interface is so much better.
TiVo was supposed to sign some deal with Cox to put their software on all of the existing cable boxes. Not sure what happened with that.
I like my series 1 with lifetime service and 330 hours of storage.
Does anyone know how to buy TiVo service without having to buy another box? That is, if I buy this at Circuit City, how do I then sign up for TiVo separately? TiVo's website routes you from choosing a service plan to choosing a box to buy, with no option of "I already have a box"....
I think if you already have a box, you just call Tivo. Like for instance, if you got one off Ebay, you could call and be like "Yeah, I want service, tia". Then they just need the number off of it.
When CC has a sale of something rarely on sale, do you wonder why?
The Series 3 Lite for $299 list is due very soon. A few less features than the current Series 3 but not the extra features on the Series 2. No OLED display, less fancy remote, no THX certification and 90 GB less on the hard drive (10 hours less HD recording time). The "TCD652160" will display 1080p.
i'm still using a media center pc as my dvr.
- still get analog signal from cable to pc, even though i am using digital for the tv itself. recorded tv looks just fine
- no monthly fees
- am able to use other media center features (photos, dvd, music) as well as use the pc as a storage device, squeezebox server.
granted, i am not a hardcore tv watcher. but if you are casual viewer like myself, media center pc are a worthwhile solution.
#10, I just did this. Just select "Setup and Support" from the menu on the left and then fill out the "Activate" form on the right.
People always rip on TIVO's subscription fee, it can be cheaper to own a Series3... Many people (including myself) can get a lower cable bill by using cable cards instead of the cable company's DVR. Cable cards generally run $1.50-$3 versus the $10-$15 fee for a DVR plus the $10-$15 "HD Package".
After getting the Series3 with 2 cable cards (one for each tuner), my cable bill actually fell from $75 (standard cable) to $58 for HD cable. If I would have gone with the cable company's HD package, my bill would have been $90. These numbers exclude internet and phone.
This savings depends on your cable provider so be careful!
Buy directly from Tivo, not a fricking dealer
The menu on my old lifetime subscription TIVO offerred me a series 2 with lifetime subscription for $299. I grabbed it, have it, it works fine. One thing I did not realize up front is that while recording two shows at once, one comes from cable box (digital on low channels and high def on very high channels) and one directly from the cable TV input (analog). No big deal, just a surprise.
Based on #15's talk about cards I will look into that option so I can record two digital channels at once.
For once, Todd does not suck.
Bravo!
Just took a look at this. Can't find the free wireless adapter.
