I bought one of these before seeing this deal. I tried using an online coupon code ($10 off $100) that was sent to me for my birthday but it wouldn't take. Even though TiVo products were not called out in the exclusions list, the clause "Not combinable with select Circuit City offers" apparently applies. So, you may not want to buy that $40 coupon off of eBay, since it may not work.
does this work with direct tv?
wait, 20 hours HD content only, nevermind. go ahead, just pass this deal on.
#3 that's currently what's avaiable. You can upgrade these. As well as the say in the near future eSATA will be enabled on the back of the unit. So that means pretty much unlimited space.
Good price. If you buy direct from TiVo, it's $299. I was able to get a 10% CircuitCity.com discount through my employer's corporateperks.com account, so it came out to only $233 plus tax!
$16 per month ?!? Sorry, but for what? They must still be living in year 2000. TiVo, wake up there are other TV recording options available on the market.
Tivo has some sweet tech. I'm abig Tivo whore but even I have started to think they are pricing themselves out of contention. I think the cablecos are just waiting for them to fail so they can buy the IP and fire sale prices. If the cablecos were smart they would just port MythTV to their hardware and give it away for $10/Month.
The DVR provided by my cable company is far superior to this overrated rubbish.
#3, eSATA already works... check this thread:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=350510
Just buy a hard drive and external case to add all the memory you want.
#6, #7, using digital cable cards can actually LOWER YOUR CABLE BILL. My provider charges $1.50 per month for each cable card but I don't have to pay $12.95 per month for a digital cable box.
Also, since all cable cards support HD content, you will also receive many HD channels without the "HD Package" that most cable providers charge.
My cable bill actually went down by about $20/month after installing my Series 3 INCLUDING THE TIVO SERVICE CHARGE- Big YMMV on this because it depends on the pricing stucture of your cable provider. I suggest you shop around. I use Grande Communications in Austin TX.
#9 It says "Tivo Series 3" only, it doesn't work on Tivo HD, which is the subject model.
