At $238, it definitely is a DEAL. But actually it is $328. Tomtom is as good as garmin. Choosing which one is just a personal favor.

Own several Tomtoms and tried Garmin for a few weeks. They are pretty similiar. Like #3 wrote, it depends on what you prefer in the GUI, etc. Both works and both have their own quirks. Can't lose getting one or the other. Magellan isn't bad too. For $238, it's cheaper than my Magellan from costco earlier this year.

Nice price BUT not compared to the Nuvi 350 for just $150 at Amazon. Or Nuvi 360 for $180 at Amazon. Both are better than this TomTom. The TomToms are hard to understand when they speak and generally Garmin (in my experience) is just better at giving you verbal directions at the exact right moments.

it really is personal preference. I have a TomTom, but my girlfriend has a Garmin. I keep hearing on average Garmin provides better routing and directions, but I have had both drive me in circles for no reason before. Regardless both get me where I need to go and have quality maps with good detail. I personally prefer the TomTom, but if I had been using the Garmin GUI from the beginning I would probably prefer that. You can't argue with the price difference between TomTom and Garmin though...
