After trying a similar quality Garmin unit this weekend, I can confidently say that the TomTom is MUCH better.
Agree with #4. I used TomTom on my phone before and I thought the menu was easier to use than my friend's Garmin. Could be just my preference though...
I think it's funny how Budget will let you rent a $25k car for $18 a day, yet wants you to pay $12 per day for a $100 GPS unit.
Got one of these refurbs from Buy.com - nice GPS for the price, love the MapShare feature, and you can 'customize' the voices, splash screens, etc... BUT - the FREE map update that is SUPPOSED to be included appears to be invalid on these refurb units.
TomTom seems to be more accurate than Garmin. The Garmin unit that I had would often get me to the correct street, but the address would be way off.
Oh, TomTom is NOT perfect. I sometimes choose the "shortest route" option just to see where it will send me. It's sent me across parking lots, off an exit ramp and then right back on (because the highway curved to the right), through someone's back yard (I kid you not, it was probably a road ten years ago), and through construction sites. My TomTom has taken me to *interesting* places!
