So is tomtom < garmin in terms of quality?

Man, GPS competition is wonderfully brutal this year. Everybody is slugging it out.
amazon has the same one for same price...no tax for most states
TomTom is not better in quality than Garmin and (Nuvi). Garmin has better quality for sure, because I personally compared the two and went ahead and bought the Garmin. Satelite coverage is more abroad and faster for Garmin. More details in map when it comes to middle of nowhere, I think. Picture quality on LCD screen is similar.
is the XL worth the extra $?
i have the XL.. it is just great... i prefer the Tomtom UI to the Garmin one...
to compare the 2 brands you should compare XL-S (for text to speech) to other Garmin product..
overall i think tomtom is better for your money... just can't beat the price.
