Thanks but no thanks. Not worth the cheap stuff to have to walk miles with a non-functioning bike.
If you research at Amazon, a good bike tool (like 26 funtions) is $31.50. A quality air pump for $14. And a good patch kit with levers $4.99.
I'd rather pay the $50 bucks for the real quality deal, than $28 for crap.
Ever walk 5 miles in the dark pushing a bike with a problem? I have on dirt/walk path in rugged terrain.
Not fun.
I have used Topeak brand bicycle accessories over the past 8 years - the products from them that I have used are first rate. Their customer service is also excellent.
I have not used this particular toolkit, and while it is a basic kit, it does seem to have the basic tools one needs for their bicycle. #1's choice of words calling this tool set "crap" is just his/her bad, though I agree that one can definitely put together a more elaborate kit for just a little more cash.
REI really doesn't sell crap.
#1, you must be mentally deficient. Topeak has been making innovative and high-quality cycling tools and accessories for nearly 20 years. I have owned numerous Topeak branded items, and fully support their products.
This kit is meant for the average rider. The average rider would not use a 26-function bike tool, and would really only need the basics included in this kit. If you want an all-in-one solution to your cycling accessory needs, this kit may be a good option for you.
On the other hand, if you're willing to piece together something for a serious cyclist, I recommend the following:
Multi-Tool: Crank Brothers Multi-27 ($24)
http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/18414-325_CRBMT8-2-Accessories-42-Tools/Crank-Brothers-Multi-17-Tool---New--.htm
Tire Levers: Pedros ($4)
http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/19499-325_PEDTL9-2-Accessories-42-Tools/Pedros-Green-Tire-Lever-Set-%282%29.htm
Pump: Topeak Mini Master Blaster ($14)
http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/11584-245_TOPMB1-2-Accessories-37-Pumps/Topeak-Mini-Master-Blaster-Pump.htm
Patch Kit: None, carry an extra tube ($2 each if you buy 5)
Truncated]
#2 - At least you weren't rude (have a nice Sunday). Note I did not say "crap". I said "cheap" stuff. I was referring to the air pump, and the fact the bike tool was lacking, as well as the tire repair solution was cheap. Next time, don't put words like "crap" in my mouth.
#3 - Since when does a major outlet like REI not sell crap if it sells? naïve much?
#4 - Good, and thought out response. I thought much the same. And unless the seller provides free shipping, than Amazon may still be the least expensive solution. Note I give you props for your research. I also research what I buy, and unlike #2, I don't put "crap" words in other people's mouths, and unlike #3, am not naive, and research what I'm buying, more so than the store.
If I'm going to have to walk 5 miles in the dark over a trail, I'd rather not attribute it to being stupid.
Make the right buys guys.
I have.
#4, I forgot to mention. You must be full on retard to call someone else "mentally deficient". That, or still live at home in momma's basement.
I have Topeak for several things. I did not knock the brand, nor was I rude to others.. You much?
Next time, think with your brain, rather than your a$$ before typing.
And if by "average rider" you mean someone that may need to walk 5 miles in the dark with a broken bike as they purchased a deficient set of tools, than by all means, call them average.
Sorry #2 for using the word crap (my bad). Topeak makes quality stuff. I was think more along the lines of the lack of tool accessories, and a cheap air pump and tire kit.
Likely I was projecting due to the long walk
I had a flat from a rut, that included the need for the extra tool usage, one of the tire levers snapped, and the air pump lacked.
wow, guys! This is about an average price for the tools listed. I've not seen such a hot debate over biking products here before. These are entry level or family use.
Notice I didn't say cyclist. If you're really into cycling, riding big road miles or technical trails, you're going to worry about weight and you're going to carry additional tubes.
Don't get all angsty over an ok deal on ok products for the average bike rider.
Seems like an ok deal to me. #1/5/6, might I recommend a light for that walk in the dark?
Topeak makes decent stuff IMO. I have a multi tool of theirs that seems fine (although no multi tool is ever as good as regular tools).
Oh, and carry a tube and a patch kit so you get one quick change and the ability to do another change if you are having a bad ride (I have gotten three flats on a 60 mile ride once while getting hailed on and was happy to have a patch kit which weighs almost nothing).
CasperImproved, shut the burp up, bitch, you have no bearing here.
looks decent. but i do have tools that would allow me to fix a flat cause that about that last thing you wanna happen if your biking
So did he say "crap" or not? I see "crap".
#1:

#5:

Great stuff for me anyway. price is not bad. in for one
Looks like the only crappy tool here is CasperImproved.
lol @ NorthSouth - now we just have to help him shove that foot back in his mouth.
hey everyone shut up and buy a good truck. costs a lot more but never get stranded again.
