#1, do you know if the data interface on these drives is the same as a 2.5" laptop ATA hard drive?

ATA-100 was the slower of the old IDE interfaces. I've got a better thought, if you're beating up on your MP3 player enough to bust the hard drive... go get a flash based MP3 player instead

How do you refurbish a hard drive? Run FDisk and call it good to go?

    #5 Simple
    1. Unplug old drive
    2. Plug in new refurb drive

Let me know if that was too fast for you.

Rather than this guranteed-to-fail piece of crap, you could get yourself a CompactFlash to IDE adapter from DealExtreme ($5) and get yourself a 32GB CF card ($60). More expensive but so much better.

I tried a refurb in my ipod, it lasted about five months then craped out. Should have purchased a new ipod, and sold my broken one on fleebay

Frederico, thanks for the heads up. I bought 3 of these last week, was going to use one in a laptop and they were cheaper for 3. I didn't know they would work in my Zune.

There are better options out there if you browse the ipod user and hacker sites. If you're replacing a hard drive on one of these for any of various reasons, then a refurb replacement is likely not in your best interest.
