Surprising that HDTV prices haven't come down more than they have, considering how long they've been out and the economy.

Actually - the have. Consider what a 42" 720p was selling for 24 months ago compared to a BETTER quality TV with the same size. Almost maps out to 1/2 the price as before regardless of the "economy", the demand for these TV is significantly UP compared to 24 months ago and the supply of them is also UP since there are many more manufacturers producing them. Also consider that the LCD's are now coming in much larger screens than was previously only capable with plasma technology. Bottom line ... 2-4 years ago you needed to take out a loan to buy a 40-50" HDTV, now you don't.

      Almost $700 for a 60hz 40" is not much of a deal..

"the demand for these TV is significantly UP compared to 24 months ago and the supply of them is also UP since there are many more manufacturers producing them" ???

where are you getting this from? I'm pretty sure the demand is not anywhere near the supply, which is why the prices are dropping...
