    Nikkei Electronics Asia

Once one of the fastest-growing segments of the global semiconductor industry, the NAND-type Flash memory market has been stricken by weakening consumer spending, causing revenue to decline in both 2008 and 2009, according to iSuppli Corp.

iSuppli's revised forecast predicts that worldwide NAND Flash memory revenue will fall by 14% to the US$12 billion level in 2008, down from US$13.9 billion in 2007. In 2009, global NAND Flash memory revenue will decline by another 15%. iSuppli's previous forecast, issued in the third quarter, called for a 3% decline in 2008 and 12% growth in 2009.

    .

Decreasing unit growth in the NAND Flash market potentially will impact the semiconductor capital equipment industry. The NAND Flash suppliers have been increasing their capital spending to increase their capacities. However, industry spending will be reduced significantly by 38% in 2009.

All in all, the only winners in this market are and will be consumers who have access to fire-sale prices for these Flash storage devices due to those issues.

I read through all the reviews on NewEgg, the favorable reviews didn't have too much information, and the poor reviews reported failures of this flash memory unit.

Anyone here have any experience with this brand? I generally like to stick to SanDisk, although they are quite pricey.

For digital cameras, especially SLR, I recommend SanDisk, don't go cheap. I'm trying to get this for my Dell Mini to store music on.

i currently use this for my 10 mpxl digital camera shots. I have only taken 800+ shots and 30min of 720p HD video on it so far. but it writes photos quickly and hasn't given me any Read/Write issues under WinXP or Vista. It contains 100% warranty for failure as well.

I have two of these that I bought from Amazon for $10 more (they did come bundled with a nifty miniature USB reader).
So far, they've been working flawlessly in my 10MP digital cameras (Fujifilm s8100fd and Canon XS)

#5 I wouldn't recommend SanDisk. I've had more failures and errors with their cards than any other brand.

    From a BB post:

I own several SanDisk Secure Digital Cards. I purchased one of the 1GB Ultra II Secure Digital Card and it gave me problems writing files trying to format. I contacted Sandisk and informed them of my problem, they asked what equipment I was using. They came back and said I should have checked with the manufacturer of the equipment to see if it was compatable.

    WHAT!

Lets see I have tried to get this card to work in two different Nikon cameras, two Dell Computers, two Gateway desktops, one Gateway Laptop, three emachines, two usb readers (one was made by Sandisk), a Palm TX, and MP3 player.

You would think they would replace it but no they say card should be fine, it should be but it is not. So much for life time replacement.
