whats the deal with the sdhc cards? are they not compatible with the normal sd card capable electronics?
No.. only if the device supports SDHC.. Usually cards above 4gb although there are some non-sdhc 4gb cards.
...
Not necessarily... the compatability depends on the whether the device can support high capacity cards. Most new electronics will support SDHC cards out of the box. It may be as little as a firmware update for older electronics to support a high capacity card, but it is not guarenteed. Therefore, check before you buy.
I would take transcend over kingston any day.
Fengner, your mixing microSDHC with normal SDHC. Micro always cost more. Plenty of portable devices will only take the micro sized card. Micro can also be used as standard sized SD with adaptors.
nice, i've been waiting for this one for my phone
In for one. My wife bought a new phone this weekend (LG Vu) and needs one for her music. Yes, I know there is an issue with the camera using >2GB on the SDHC card. We don't use our phones as cameras. Eventually, they will do a hotfix for it.
That's interesting, #8.
not the cheapest price
cheapest i've seen for a class 6 8gig microSD... where have you seen cheaper #10? i've seen class 4 for cheaper, but not class 6
yeah, I just bought a class 4 kingston kit for $20 bucks. $17 for a class 6 card is decent right now.
One caution about Transcend: they ship these 'adapters' with their cards as a warranty TRICK. The adapters are cheap crap, and once they fall apart they will claim it as "user damage" and void the ENTIRE warranty of the flash card itself. You can always buy an adapter from a reputable vendor such as Sandisk or Kingston, but Transcend should be called out for voiding their warranty if their crap adapters fall apart.
I've read from forums that devices that accept microSDHC also accept microSD cards, basically because microSDHC works with FAT32, but microSD works only with FAT32. As long as you read from the device manual that it accepts microSDHC, you should be fine purchasing either card.
#6: You are making it sound like you could use a microSDHC card in a device that doesn't work with SDHC cards just by using one of those cheap little micro to SD adapters. If a device doesn't know how to interface in block addressing mode, it's not going to be able to work with a microSDHC (or SDHC) card no matter what kind of physical size adapter you use. You can't make the device work without making the internal firmware smarter.
I intended to state that a microsd can be used as a SD with adaptor which is another reason why it is more expensive and useful. Was not commenting on converting a SDHC to standard SD.
