Newegg has the TRENDnet TEW-637AP 300Mbps Wireless Easy-N-Upgrader for $25 + $0 shipping = $25 shipped. It connects to your existing router to add Wireless-N capability. It is not a stand-alone device.

While this is a great idea in concept, it simply isn't worth it to the average consumer. If you are upgrading to wireless N I would invest into a standalone device that is capable of supporting gigabit ethernet lan as well. Adding this on just isn't cost efficient when you can pay as low as $30 for a Wireless N router (though it won't support gigabit lan).

I concur, having 2 devices to configure and manage is just one more way to cause trouble. Get a single router, and give your old one to grandma.

Whats the best performing N-router. I don't see any good reviews on belkin N router which I believe is not a true N router.

I disagree. These things work terrific, and setup is a snap - just plug the supplied Cat-5 cable into your old router and you're running. And foolproof wireless-N for $25? A no-brainer.

I have heard that this is a good/cheap way to get FIOS's g Actiontec to broadcast on n. A couple of Newegg reviewers also used it this way. Anyone here use it this way?

If you're going to plug this directly into the G router, I'd definitely disable the wireless on the G router, itself. (This assumes the two devices are right next to each other). So, the G router would just be doing wired lan, essentially, while this took care of the wireless aspects. This is how I have it connected in my place --a Zyxel X-550 G router with wireless disabled and this Easy N Upgrader.

I did have a couple of issues getting devices to connect in "N" mode...I had to manually select a specific channel and change another setting on the device. When I had it set for "Auto" channel selection, my N devices (even a Trendnet cardbus N card!) would only connect in G mode --even with a strong signal. Remedy: Tech support told me I had to manually set the Trendnet Upgrader to: Channel 1 or 11 and set the channel width to "20/40" (defaults to 20). That was annoying, but it's working now. (Yes, I had/have the latest firmware on the upgrader and the Trendnet N Cardbus card).

There is a firmware upgrade for this thing. You should be getting the "2.0R" version from Newegg. Make sure you get the right firmware because there's an older version with the same model name.

I had some bad times with it. The connection was dropping a lot and I decided to upgrade the firmware. After this it stopped to work. Trendnet support did not help at all. They advised only to return it because because I bought it a couple of weeks ago.

Bottom line, returned to NewEgg and I amwaiting for my refund

#6 I did just that. Disabled the wireless in the FIOS Actiontec router and plugged this in. Works like a charm! You may have to restart the routers (unplug electric) but then everything just works.
