Cue up the requisite post from that guy who hates Trendnet rebates and starts all his posts with the word "Sigh".
Another day, another Trendnet rebate. For your consideration: Use the info or ignore it.
This is (at best) average gear. The only thing that makes this special is the rebate. You might not get the rebate. TrendNet has one of the worst records for rebates, usually in bottom-5 (http://www.rebatereportcard.com/). Doesn't matter how careful you are or how much documentation you save. They deny on some pretext, have you re-submit, then wait 2 months to anwswer and terminate your case "because the promotion is over". Won't even accept correspondence. Class-action case at TX Attorney General, Trendnet dropped by Circuit City for rebate abuses, etc.
Can't happen to careful careful you? Happens to whatever percentage they decide will make a profit (ALL Trendnet deals are rebates). This is based on the rebate experience of 61 co-workers and friends, and rebate abuses documented on the net. You might also search 'Trendnet' on the Anand 'Hot Deal' forums.
Two new developments:
1) NewEgg is quietly making good on rebates arbitrarily denied by TrendNet. Send your complaint directly to NewEgg Customer Service. "We understand this is not much but we hope it will allow you to restore your faith in Newegg.com".
2) Kapersky Antivirus/Amazon rebate (Ben's deal 11/23/07): Another failing company takes a page from the TrendNet business model. In this case, however, Ama... [Truncated]
bwahaha, he dropped the "sigh".
hey what if I say queue up the post from that guy that posts rebate rants, will he drop the entire post? (sigh)
and he started the "sigh" thing because I posted "sigh, another brainless rant from smartadze" once.
he's just too clever for words!!1!
Anyone have a recommendation for a similar KVM but with DVI rather than VGA?
Some people prefer to receive their rebates, sigh, burp.
I've got a 2 port KVM made by trendnet and it works fine. The hotkey switching works fine in windows but doesn't seem to work in ubuntu, so you have to push the button when switching away from a linux computer. That's my only complaint.
I've never seen a reasonably priced KVM with DVI video, only VGA.
#2 - I've never read a less accurate post in my life.
First - "If you have any information other than "I got MY rebate (and you suck)". Why can't we post that we successfully received our rebates? Your blessed site rebatereportcard.com lists positive reports alongside the negative ones. In fact, that site has only 21 reports for Trendnet, 4 of which were for A+ satisfaction levels. That leaves 17 of those with "F" rated reports. We'll ignore the idea that it would seem likely, due to the large amounts of negative info you leave about Trendnet on this board, that a number of the negative reports left on rebatereportcard are from you. But let's say they're all legit - if a company like Trendnet sells nearly every item with a rebate attached, adding up to thousands upon thousands of items sold, and their track record sucks as you say, shouldn't they have more than SEVENTEEN complaints?!? 17 ain't too shabby...
Second - "TrendNet has one of the worst records for rebates, usually in bottom-5 (http://www.rebatereportcard.com/)." Actually, they're not even on the list of worst companies according to that website. They are amongst the most reported (with 17 negative reports - see #1 above), but certainly don't rank on the worst list.
Third - "This is (at best) average gear." Yeah, anyone on this site who knows his/her a$$ from their elbow knows that. But guess what? Most of my clients don't care - they want a cheap piece of equipment that doesn't break down. Sure, this stuff ain't great, and I wouldn't use it for myself, but I've used numerous pieces of Trendnet equipment with nary a complaint. Believe me, having a Linksys Linux-based router doesn't get you laid.
Fourth - I liked it better when you used the word "sigh" in your posting. It made me imagine you sitt... [Truncated]
I appreciate and agree with smartadze. If you personally had good luck with TrendNET, by all means say so. When someone careful has repeated problems, they are doing us a service to report it anywhere possible. This gives us buyers an edge when comparing with rebate companies that do pay without issues.
I thank him for taking the time, even if it is primarily a paste, since Ben keeps putting up TrendNET items constantly, that only makes the most sense.
I feel the same way about Kapersky, Fujitronic and Foxconn rebates, among others. Once they burn you, complain to everyone and boycott. If they burn others and you can avoid getting burned from warnings, you are ahead of the game. So grow up. Getting burned when you know you shouldn't is not the same as getting rejected for screwing up. That is not what smartadze is talking about.
Rebates are a scam about 10-20% of the time in my thousands of cases of experience, because they may:
falsey deny claims, delay them for months, state they never received your claim, lie about sending the check, deny receiving faxes, ignore emails, leave out any way to contact them to follow up. Many times the seller is not going to help you out either. A few will with persistence.
The rebate processors count on a certain percent of submissions to not meet the guidelines, a certain percent of consumers to not follow up on status- ever, and a certain percent to give up after an initial denial, or after resubmitting once or even multiple times.
Some treat your rebate like it does not exist until after you follow up on it, hoping you never will.
They are bunch of thieves and rodeo cowboy. I am certain they receive bonuses for rejections that never convert to approvals.
We consumers... [Truncated]
ben's relentless in posting Trendnet products and their loads of rebates
You are right about that Aquaflare- 2 or 3 a day.
