Writing is on the wall for Netflix after Blockbuster's amazing deal where you can turn your movies in at the store. I love it.

So... I could drop my movies in my mailbox which is 20 feet away from my house, or I could drive all the way to the nearest Blockbuster store to turn in my movies. And this is considered a positive thing because...?

#2, it is a positive thing because two things happen as soon as you return the DVD to Blockbuster. First, your item is taken off your queue, thereby relieving you of the stress that it will get back to the distribution center, and also clearing your next queued item for shipment. Second, you can trade your returned item for a DVD right from the store, so you don't have to wait for the next one to be mailed. You can grab a new release the day it comes out, and not have to worry about whatever throttling/scheduling/delaying tactics Blockbuster's competition employs.

So.. why even bother with a mail order dvd membership at all then?

Why is Netflix "deal" listed here??? There is absolutely nothing new about this. I've been a member for $18 a month for years. What's the news? This is just a lame attempt to score some affiliate money. At least the Blockbuster deal had something new to add.

I love Netflix. But earlier this year I had to switch. The throttling got so bad that, all I had in queue was new movies and they would not send any. 2 weeks straight my queue was full and the shipped section was empty, and not single dvd was sent.

I went to blockbuster, it is a bit slower for my area. But, 8 months and they have always sent the top of queue (New Releases) without delay. And with the plans now. I get:

3 out at a time
2 in-store coupons (not needed now)
1 Free previously rented DVD $9.99 or less to keep

And the cherry on top, All my return dvd mailers are worth one free in store rental. So that is at least 3 extra (6 total) rentals a week. Although there are rarely that many new items to see. But it is nice to have the option.

And all for the near same $20 bill Netflix charges.

All of that Blockbuster goodness is based on the participation of the local store. And none of my local stores participate. They don't participate in the no late fees promotion, either. Oh, lucky me.
