See also "balaclava" if you can't find any tactical hoods to compare against. Since it's a tight fitting design while also one size fits all, it may feel a bit confining if you have a large to XL head.

Seconding the balaclava endorsement.
I worked outdoors last winter, 9-hour shifts in the middle of a frozen lake near Chicago. In the past I've had all sorts of trouble with cold weather, but wearing a simple balaclava, I was the least-complaining member of my crew. That's not to say I enjoyed it, but I didn't have any medical issues, and my ears never went numb, so it was ten bucks well spent. I now own two.
Wear a balaclava to show your solidarity with the imprisoned female Russian punk band whose name I cannot post without it being filtered. Something like Kitty Riot.
I would not want to attend a Kitty riot. It must smell like a Chinatown fish market on a hot day.
