Straight Talk is offering a pre-paid 30-Day Unlimited Talk, Text and Data Plan for $45/month. No contract, GSM network, can be used with any unlocked GSM phone (Straight Talk SIM card required).
1000 Minute and 1000 Text Plan for $30/month
Anyone have Straight Talk for a plan? I have T Mobile and the coverage is spotty and little or no coverage in my office building.
All these prepaid plans just share (rent out) towers, so service is never really an issue. Only thing I have heard is you can't get 4G with this service.
All providers here except Verizon have lousy coverage. Some, after last yrs. storms, didn't come back in service for 3-4 days.
verizon rules
it looks like pagepluscellular is more attractive for the $30/month plan.
shtarker: I got this for my wife's iphone 3g. They are reselling & repackaging AT&T or T-mobile, so you're going to get the same network coverage as one of them. Her phone is older, so I don't know about 4G coverage. She's been really happy with it.
Nothing lasts forever and Verizon got lucky from Bell. F...verizon. I got me_tr_o pcs...ok coverage...4G....Samsung phone...they just changed the unlimited rule but still not bad for 50$. Calls are good but I txt a lot and use internet.
Any limitations using on an Iphone4?... Ie visual voicemail etc?.... Has anybody tried to beg ATT for a discount to $45 a month... I am paying like $67/month unlimited on ATT now w/ some state discount etc.. The 1 year plans at $41 seem like a GOOD deal... (!)
No visual voicemail for iphone, but does do google voice integration...coverage I had was the same I had with AT&T
So if you go through their online thing, you can pick either an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM, which drops into your phone and you're off and running after you change your APN settings on your phone.
If you have bad T-Mobile coverage where you are, you'll continue to have bad T-Mobile coverage, since you're essentially just buying a T-Mobile SIM with a Straight Talk sticker on it. You supposedly do get 4G if you go with the T-Mobile compatible plan and live in a T-Mobile 4G area. Blah blah HSPA+ vs. LTE vs. who cares, it's more than 3G.
PagePlus is a Verizon MVNO, so it only works with Verizon phones. Also, their $30/mo plan only includes 100MB of data whereas StraightTalk is "unlimited" (2-5GB per reports online).
The funny thing is AT&T is selling their bandwidth (unlimited calling, texting and 2GB data, though they say unlimited data) for less than $45 a month to straighttalk but charges around $80 or more from their own customers with a two year contract. Seems like they have to do it to get all the money of handset.
Hey All,
I ended up getting straight talk through this site and use this site quite often so I thought I might finally contribute. I have an iPhone 4 and I'm using straight talk. The set up is really easy. The switch over happened almost instantaneously. In order to use MMS you need to set up an APN profile. There's a link that makes this process really easy as well. Coverage and usage has been about the same as ATT.
Now for the BAD. You don't get visual voicemail. I don't think you get alerts that you've received a voicemail either. The data connection is REALLY slow. I originally was going at a decent rate. Decent meaning indistinguishable from my 3G ATT plan I had previously. However, I believe they started to throttle me. I use pandora quite often and have push emails coming to me constantly but besides that I'd say I'm an average data user.
I called Straight Talk about it, and talked with some off shore operator who gave me the runaround. I had to demand to talk to a supervisor. Here's what you'll hear... "If it's not a straight talk phone, it may be a technical issue with your phone" "You may be using data during a high traffic period." "We do not throttle data service" Apparently if you're a high data user, you may be cut from the plan as well. In the end, they were unable to resolve my issue.
Currently I get 200kb download and 1-2mb upload using speedtest app. So even though it says unlimited, it's not truly unlimited.
With all that said, seeing that the next option available is an $80 plan, its a tough call. Hope this helps make decisions for many of you.
Also for the BAD, I ordered a SIM earlier this week since you can't go pick up one of the T-Mobile or AT&T SIMs in a Walmart. They shipped it (for free) via FedEx Express, but "Direct Signature Required". Meaning, an adult with a driver's license has to be home to sign for it, they won't hold it at a local FedEx location, and you can't redirect the shipment elsewhere.
Also, my FedEx guy came at 2:40p Thursday, and 9:30a today. You know, when PEOPLE ARE AT WORK.
I can't really blame ST, but that's a stupid plan right there. I could have had it delivered to work instead if I would have thought about it, but not everyone can.
