Ben your description of this card is always wrong. It's not 3% on groceries, gas, and fast food, it's 3% on your top 3 categories out of 15 categories for the month. Hate to call you out on it, but the card is actually a lot better when you get all the facts.
PS most online purchases and discount store like walmart are only 1%.
i've had this card since the $250 signup bonus a while back but they keep sending offers in the mail to sign up for this exact card with a $100 promotion. look out for it before inking the $50 deal here but if you don't find it, $50 is still a pretty good deal for one of the best credit cards out there.
I got this card with the $250 deal too. I use it for business so I've gotten another $250 X 2 since I signed up. I keep saying I'm going to trade it for an AMEX so I can earn hotel points but the $250 keeps me coming back.
Another condition in the fine print you should be aware of: The 2% bonus for the top 3 categories has a $12 limit ($600 in purchases) per month, then the "bonus 2%" is no longer valid. After that point your total cash back drops from 3% to 1% for gas/bonus purchases until the next billing cycle.
When I first had this card this wasn't a problem, but with the declining dollar it is now easy to pass that mark when feeding 3 people and buying gas for 2 cars. I now use multiple cards to try to avoid hitting the bonus limit. For example, the Discover 5% gas card is good for up to $100 in gas per month, so I use it for the first 2 to 2.5 fillups before charging gas to the Chase Freedom.
#5: There is no expiration for the 3%. (However they always have the option to change the program or terms & conditions, like Citibank did when they killed off the 5% rewards on the Dividend card.)

It's only a lot "more better" if you have another 3% gas & groceries card to use in those months when you plan to spend in those other categories.

is the 3% cash back valid for 1 year only? I don't see anything in the fine print.

ah ok thanks. I was comparing this deal to this one:
http://www.chaseinformation.com/multicard_free_platinum/?v=wre5&mkid=6RRW&MSC=TT027936&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=credit_card
It's $150 instead of $50, but it says "the length of the introductory period will be either 12 billing cycles or 3 billing cycles"
#2 yeah I have a 5% Discover open road card for gas so I never have to mess around much to get the most rewards for my purchases.
