at&t universal card is the same. check them out, accepted every where.
and don't forget AMEX's purchase protection policy. I got $100 back for the early adopter iPhone I purchased with it!
Love this card. Got $630 back last year. I paid no interest or fees whatsoever. nice!
#1 -- From what I understand of the at&t universal card, you only get 5% back on AT&T related purchases. Do you have a link?
good point #4
this blows, i cant get amex again because i had a settlement with them
only 1% from 0 to $6500.
And they only issue one check every 12 month!
"up to" 5%... I think it only goes to 5% after you've spent so much on it first.
Yes it's true this takes some time to make it worth it, but it's definitely worth it if you spend a decent amount on your credit card.
Is this 5% for the first year, or the life of the card?
#7 - why that turns me off from trying to sign up for it
Is it just cash back in those three categories?
#11 -- You get cash back from all purchases. Those three categories you get MORE cash back than others.
It is a great card for people who pay in full each month. I've had it for 4 years now and each year I get back $350-$450 for purchasing just a stuff I would buy anyway (groceries, gas, paying bills ) without paying them a dime. And first $6500 are spent faster then you think.
I'd like to know what some of the "better" cards are. I've had this card for several years and I cannot find a better one after reading all the fine print. Yes, this you have to spend something like $6500 on the card to get the highest rewards, but at that level it rewards 1% on EVERYTHING and 5% on gas/groceries/drug stores. Here is the big kicker - there is no max reward. Most of the other cards I have looked at all cap your total reward - generally on a monthly basis. We buy everything we can on the card and pay it off monthly. We get sizable rewards every year. Much more than other cards would have cap us at
If someone can find a better card I am all ears because I love getting money back for buying those everyday things. I just haven't found one myself.
whenever something says "UP TO" theres some trickery behind it.
This card is good for people who spend a lot. This is not a good cash back option for general person.
For better cards:
Citi Dividend used to be great cause they offered flat 5% on groceries and fuel etc. now they offer it only for 6 months after that u get 2%
Chase Freedom:
This card offers 3% on groceries and gas and many other things. I like this card cause there is no trick to it, you know you get 3% no matter what months going and how long you had the card and how much you have used the card in a year.
Discover:
This ones tricky nowadays. they have 5% on categories like grocery travel gas etc ... but it changes every few months, plus you have to "enroll" everytime this changes. so with this card you have to keep in mind what categories are 5% and use the card for them. and if you forget to enroll for their new promotion all you get is the flat 1% back .... thats lame if you ask me.
dokteriq - thanks for the info.
The Chase Freedom does give 1% on all purchases, but caps the 2% bonus rebate at $12 per month (which is a net $600 in spending). So you quickly hit the cap and therefore only get 1% after that. If you don't purchase much each month, then this card may be attractive, but not as much if you charge a lot every month.
The Citi Dividend does pay 1% on normal purcases and 2% on those everyday purchases with no cap, but never gets higher. With Blue you only get 1/2% on normal purchases and 1 1/2% on everyday purchases until you spend $6500. That .5% difference on $6500 is equal to $32.50. At that point, you start earning 1% on normal purchases (equal to Citi Dividend) and 5% on everday purchases (3% more than Citi Dividend).
So the bottom line is if you expect to spend more than $1100 on everyday purchases after hitting the $6500 breakpoint. If you think you will, then Blue is better for you. If you won't then Citi Dividend is going to be better.
Of course you have to pay off these cards each month in order for it to be worth while. If you carry a balance EVER, then you want to find the card with the lowest APY.
Any other decent cards out there?
Very easy to get! Don't need a long credit history!
Can I apply for this card when I've already have AMEX Clear card when I applied when they sent me a pre-approved application by mail? Then transfer my points and rewards to the new card and discontinue the old one. Can I do that? Will they let me?
Got a $100 discount code from TicketsNow when I signed up for this card.
