Is it better than the Chase Free?
Nope. It's an AMEX, which means high rates and low rewards.
Hoffi and torr310 are almost half right. Whether this card is good for you or not just depends on your annual spending. If you spend much more than $6500 per year, this is the best cash back card out there IMO. I just received $750 cash back on mine for the year.
If you're a light spender, college student, etc, the Chase free will probably be better at a full 1% cash back. However, with this amex card once you spend over $6500, every dollar you spend is good for at least 1.5% cash back or 5% at gas stations and grocery stores. If you have a family to feed or you commute in a gas guzzling SUV, it's EASY to get back over 2% per year average on blue cash - double the rewards of Chase Free.
[edited to include response to torr310 who apparently didn't read this post anyway]
Word of advice.. if the interest rate concerns you, go to bankrate.com and find a good low rate card - don't bother with cash back or rewards unless you pay the balance in full every month.
not useful at all... need to spend over $6500 annually to get 5%. Otherwise, you get 1% only
If you spend more than $30,000 per year on expenses that CAN be paid with a credit card, and you are not using a credit card, or not using THIS credit card, you are throwing money away.
Get this card.
Use this card for EVEYTHING you can.
Pay the bill off each month, and it costs you NOTHING to use the card.
Get a huge year end reward.
I got nearly $800 back on this card last year.
#6 is correct. I use this for work and my over spending wife, and I hit the $6500 pretty much every month. I should be getting a pretty fat rebate check next month, and never paid a bacon double bacon burger of interest. If I had paid cash or used my debit card I would be throwing away money. The way I look at it, even if I am spending $5 at the grocery store I still charge it. Would I throw away a 5% off coupon if I had it just because I was only charging a few bucks? This is the card to own.
Thanks for all your comments and suggestions!!!
#6 is right. If you pay your bill off in full every month, and have many expenses that can be paid with credit card, it's a waste to use anything else.
If you carry a monthly balance, are a student, or most your expenses cannot be paid in anyway with credit card, you'll be better off with another card.
The 0% intro APR is not shown how long on their website, maybe its 3-6 months? I would not take the credit score hit if it were anything less than 1 year 0.0% into APR.
It's just 6 months according to their Terms,Conditions & Disclosures link.
Thanks for the info Mapinkerton
