if I am correct, 5% only applies after spending 6K a month
alittle excessive for someone who doesn't have great credit history i would say.
This is the best card for non-travelers out there. 6500K with a family of 2 for food, drugs, and gas is so easy. we get approx 800 credit back on the card every year with this baby. I agree it does not work for some but credit history is not a factor when deciding to choose any card. Pay your bills and stop bitching.
#1, you are incorrect. If you don't know the correct information, I would keep your opinions to yourself.
I have this card, and it is a good card for everyday purchases. 5% applies to certain categories after spending $6500.01 or more during a one year period.
Year to Date Purchases
Cash Back on Everyday Purchases*
Cash Back on All Other Purchases
$0-$6,500 1.0% 0.5%
$6,500.01 or more 5.0% 1.5%
"Everyday Purchases" are Eligible Purchases made at US supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores, in each case that are not departments of superstores or warehouse clubs.
I love this card and usually get about $600+/year rebate.
Let's do more for the credit problems of our nation. Why can't people pay their mortgages? Too many credit cards with too much debt. Use cash for everything and pay your bills.
there is a rebate calculator in the american express website. if you are a moderate spender you won't gain much of this card, may be up to $200 a year.
#5...nah, just don't carry a balance. Pay off your bill every month.
I thought you have to carry a balance to get the higher reward levels so paying in full each month won't get you there. That was the only reason I didn't get it, am I wrong about that?
#8, no you don't need to carry a balance.
I work for American Express and they hate the people that pay off the balances from month to month. But the truth is if you pay off the balances then American Express loses the money. This is the best non-travel rebate credit card out there.
Had this card for years and it's still 9.99%. I have had a balance on it for a long time and it is nice they haven't increased my rate for having that balance. I had a CHASE card that had my normal APR at 10.99% and because I had a balance on they raised me to 24.99%, maybe thinking that I was probably unable to pay off the balance forcing me to pay a horrible interest rate. A lot of companies are doing that now.

Not a good deal unless you can spend like crazy. For example, if you were to spend $10,000 on supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores. You will get 1% for the first $6500 and 5% for the next $3500. Total cash back = $65 + $175 = $240 (or 2.4%).
There are Visa/Mastercard out there that offer 3-4% cash back on supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores. Based on most people's spending limit, this is not a good deal.
not the best cc deal. you have to spend over 6G before you get 5%.
#12 it sounds like a great deal since it is per year and not per month so you quickly start getting the full 5% with no limit *unlike* the other credit cards.
