The product description at Eforcity's site doesn't really say that this is a USB 2.0 device, so it is probably USB 1.1 . I bought a similar USB 1.1 device from Meritline several months ago. At a maximum data rate of 12mbps, USB 1.1 isn't fast enough to support the full bandwidth of a 100mb Ethernet connection. This device may light up the 100mb LED on your Ethernet switch, but it will never transfer data that fast.

Obviously it depends on the circumstance, but bandwidth doesn't seem like it should be a big deal for this. This strikes me as something you use on a temporary basis, and/or for a slow/old computer that you probably don't use enough to worry about bandwidth anyway.

If you're really worried about bandwidth you can probably get a PCI card for <$20 (maybe <$15?) that would do the trick if you needed a more permanent solution.

I dunno, but Eforcity sucks. They only get positive reviews because they bribe you with a $5 coupon for a "good" review. I bought some really cheap batteries for a camera that never fit in the camera because they were so crappy. It even took 2 weeks to get to me because they use shitty DHL logistics. It sat in their facility for a week before they handed it to the USPS for the final delivery. I can gaurantee they have some bot roaming around looking for bad reviews and i'll find this one eventually.

#5 HP and Compaq have many laptop that has burned out ethernet ports. I have 5 HP/Compaq and 4 out of 5 has bad ethernet ports.
I brought one of these to work around but it is not definite at 100mbps full 10/100 speed.
