Any PC recent enough to have USB also has on-board audio.

has to be a mighty fancy 1/8" headphone jack to get 7.1 channels out of it. or not.

Got something similar when my onboard audio fried before i decided if i wanted to replace my motherboard of get a real sound card... Filled in nicely as a temporary solution.
