#3 got it right. If your desktop sound card break, use one of these and plug and play no driver needed. I use it for playing games use my headphone plug this in the front usb and it automatic shut the back speakers off. This is the better model, for 3.74 shiped. Cheaper than buying a PCI sound card for your older mother board that's not under warrantee if sound card defective. Carefull with these easy to get zap, I already fry one of these already.. Always use computer to disconnect. So useful in many suituation, works very good, very good clean sound, I like it so much that I bought ten..
