Today only. Home Depot has the Vacmaster 3 HP 6 Gallon Stainless Steel Wet/Dry Vacuum (VQ607S) on sale for $40 with free shipping. Features blower function, on board accessory storage, 12' power chord and 7' hose, dust sealed switch, and heavy-duty construction.
It doesn't matter. The motor & pump sits on top like all wet/dry vacs. The canister is simply just that. The only moveable part which might be louder is the plastic ball inside that gets sucked up once it's full.
For example, if you set a leaf blower on top of a metal bucket, it's louder than on a plastic bucket. The plastic absorbs more vibration while the metal tends to more audibly vibrate itself.
Well my first ShopVac from the 80's had a metal canister and honestly it lasted till like 3 years ago and the "Whisper Pac" from ShopVac I got to replace it... this new one isn't anything like the original. I'd take a little noise if it performed like the first one. I had to fashion a new base for that first one the plastic never held up and it liked to tip over if you drug it along. New good casters and made it so the canister was low(er) to ground and moved the wheel apart a little more and it worked like a champ the rest of its days.
To me it seems too tall and again looks like it might tip over easily. But You can't beat the price...
Only 40 bucks? This thing must buffet all over the place... I'm waiting for a $400 yellow and purple colored Dyson shop vac featuring a non-buffeting design...
Is a stainless vac any louder than all plastic? (all else being equal)

^ Is that from experience or a guess?
