I'm sure your spine can handle twisting forces of carrying an asymmetrical load for years without problems. Just buy two and tie them together and you can have a real backpack.
I bought one several months ago when they were at this price. I like it a lot and is super easy to throw across the shoulder and take off. It stays in place well even without the waist belt attached. I highly recommend it.
It's only 11-inch x 15-inch x 7-inch, I imagine it's more asymmetrical wear on my spine getting into the same side of my car or bed for years, though if it worries you then you can always wear it on the opposite side half the time.
