Great deal... 2GB memory preinstalled. 160GB is also great, make sure u got video card upgrade so vista can run faster also the damn cpu.... 1.4G is not that good, upgrade if possible. OR, save all the trouble, remove the vista and install XP without any additional upgrade.

it's an ok deal. i got a similar machine for $550 last august with (a) only 1GB ram (b) only 120 gb hd (c) a 1.6 instead of 4 ram is dirt cheap and i rely on external hard drive for data storage (reliable seagate at 20 cents / gig) so i'm not impressed by (a) or (b). even if a, b, c even out - at best the pc price has dropped by 70 dollars.

if you need a new reliable pc now - than go for this one. i'm not saying to wait 100 years for a faster pc lol but i don't see a significant change since last august and this makes me think we'll see a sharp increase in pc specs for same price in about 3-4 months.

after using vista, xp looks and feels outdated. i definitely like vista. nice graphics, system performance is fine, windows mail is good, and i do like the indexing feature (although google desktop is just fine. at the least, i honestly don't see reason to go against vista. a lot of people complaining about it (not all) are just not familiar with the os as they were with previous versions.

sorry - typo - (c) is 1.6 ghz instead of 1.4 ghz so my processor from august is faster! often times, even my 1.6 is being used at 100% capacity (if i'm running "moderately" heavy applications) so i myself wish i had a faster cpu.

#3 the X3100 is much slower.

It isn't entirely incapable, though. I can play UT2004 (yes, fear my new games) at the Vostro 1700's native 1440x900 resolution with full detail and there are no noticeable slowdowns.

Newer games? I doubt you'll be so fortunate.

#6 how cheap would this have to be for it to be a deal? I do not think I have ever seen a post that someone felt was not a great deal. This was a $160 below normal. I consider that a deal.

Just remember guys, the terrorists and extremists step in, fill the vacuum, establish safe havens and use them to spread chaos and carnage.

x3100 is slower than 8400M GS, but even x3100 is a lot better than POS Apple macbook can muster.
