dual core procs with 2gb ram is overkill for a linux machine
this will run any flavor of windows just fine

I put Vista Basic on my mom's Dell Vostro and I was surprised at how little difference is between it and Vista Home Premium. Even the Windows have fake Aero Glass that on a 15.4" monitor, you can hardly tell from Premium. Follow the underlying security features, networking, etc. start works pretty much the same and it was very easy to hook up to a brand-new AT&T wireless home network ($10/month -- 876 kB/sec).

      #3:

It depends on which Linux distro you're talking about and what you'll be doing with it.

Anyway, not a bad deal. I just wish Dell offered these things without Windows so we could shave a few more bucks off...

Looks like the included battery is actually a 6-cell, unless you upgrade to the 9-cell. Would it make sense to upgrade to Vista premium considering the included graphics card?

There is no included graphics card, it is integrated graphics at this price.

so what's the difference between this and the earlier "sale" of 599? I'm pissed because I recently just purchased the 599 one...

I'm having the hardest time deciding between the two laptops:

Lenovo 3000 Y410 Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5GHz, 802.11a/b/g Wireless, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, Dual Layer DVD RW, 14.1" WXGA, Integrated Webcam (with Face Recognition Software), Windows Vista Home Premium

      and this Dell Vostro 1400.

The prices of these deals are approximately the same. As for brand I don't know if Lenovo is better or Dell is for a typical home user.

      SOMEONE HELP ME DECIDE!!!! Thanks.

I mainly need a laptop just as an extra computer for word processing and internet (especially Citrix) at home and during travel. Seems like this 14" size would be ideal for travel, and the other specs seem pretty nice for the price. Thoughts? Thanks!

Again this makes the $399 Vostro deal look even better since buying RAM anywhere but Dell is cheap!
