Doesn't the 9-cell battery stick out the back of the laptop on these?

yes, these are the same deals for vostros over and over again. i have a vostro 1400 with a 9 cell and i absolutely love it. i waited a long time to scope out a good deal, and i'm happy with the results. if you're shopping for a laptop and you can find one of these with xp on it, i would jump all over it.

#5, but if you jumped all over it, it would break and no longer function. at that point, you might as well have a functioning vista laptop as they would perform about the same.

by the way, you can get better features if you order directly from dell versus buying it from costco for example as I configured one earlier online from dell with better specs at the same price as the configured system being sold at costco.

Also, you can get windows xp installed from dell when you configure it, so you won't have to jump on it after all, #5.

these are NOT the same vostro deals, some of them were without the 9-cell battery, some were with the nvdia 8400 gs instead of the integrated x3100 video card.

The best deal that was posted was the one around $549 with the 8400gs card, not this one.

I was thinking of buying one of these - any idea how much more time the 9 cell has over the 6 cell in terms of being unplugged?

how often do people actually find the "need" of using the battery vs plug in somewhere.... most of the time wherever I go, there's an outlet for me to plug-in.. I don't know why people complain so much 'bout battery.

how often do people actually find the "need" of having a laptop computer? after i hit the soup kitchen, i go to the library and use their computers for free. i don't know why people are shelling out $500+ for a laptop.

the 9-cell gives about 1h more compared to the 6-cell on these.

#9, the need usually comes when you're on long-haul flights (coast to coast, trans atlantic, etc)

Some of the newer Dell laptops that have larger batteries are actually starting to stick out at the front. They try to design it to look and act like a palm rest, but it looks a lot more awkward than in the back. Even though I would never buy a Gateway machine, a lot of their laptops with 9 cell batteries make the battery stick out of the bottom back, which tilts the laptop towards, which makes it seem like it was designed that way on purpose without regards to the battery.
