I thought that ended years ago?
I installed and played with Ubuntu for a week now. I spent a lot of time trying to get one of the programs on Windows to work on Ubuntu using Wine but am not successful. I like Ubuntu a lot, but unfortunately, the Windows program is needed for class; Now I'm installing Windows again... >.
Dual-boot is the way to go.
@gnimble - before you go back to Windows, try out Crossover. It's a bit pricey ($60), but runs a ton of software. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/
Or look at one of the Virtual Machine offerings: VirtualBox VMware, etc.
Although this particular laptop is probably underpowered for that approach.
