Does anyone have any history with this model? I am not familiar with it. I should probably avoid the celeron processor?

I ordered three. (not for myself; but for work as loaner laptops.) This one for the price doesn't seem bad at all. 3.8LB is quite light for the size of the LCD.

Celeron is slow with Vista Basic. But this should be good for folks who only wants to browse the net, email, IM, word, and some not too graphic intensive games.

The problem is not being a celeron. Bet XP or better yet Linux would work wonders on it.

I like Vista. I have a similar computer. Vista runs fine. Its not slow. Its not uncool. Its fine. Dammit, if Steve Ballmer says I should run Vista, then I'm running Vista. Its fine.

#3, thanks. I got confused with $350 lappy from buy.com. I bought a Vostro 1510 for $375 a few weeks ago. A860 is little lighter than my Vostro 1510.

not a bad deal for a basic laptop

#8 - You will have to upgrade very few programs from XP to vista anymore.

If you have a little know-how you can use anyone's Dell XP Pro restore cd to overwrite Vista without any license issues. Then it's just a matter of using the driver cd to wrap things up. Well worth a couple hours of your time.

does Vista still need 2GB of RAM to really run or is a Celeron with 1GB going to cut it?

I would think you are better off waiting for a deal on one with a dual core processor and a DVD burner. They are extremely common at just $50 - $100 more.
