#1 these things are user preference. If you go with a big v twin it's going to vibrate more, people prefer the loud exhaust as it gets them noticed as a safety and menacing issue, and the old tech design lends itself to DIY maintenance and repair more.

Same goes for old tech and performance, by the time the average rider has moved up (or down, sideways, whatever...) to a harley they are an older more mature rider that doesn't need a crotch rocket anymore, they just want low RPM torque for less engine wear and reduced shifting... and of course the image. The cult started because it's old school design and made in America. If it weren't for the chrome and they were imports, some other US brand would have put HD out of business instead of the other way around.

Overpriced for sure but besides the recent recession there's been a waiting list so they can ask whatever they want and the resale value makes up for it. Kind of a shame they did away with Buell though, I didn't want one but they had some interesting concepts.
