Do you need to have a computer running to use this as an automatic backup or do I have to get the NAS version?
Can you trust WD brand is the question with your data.
I have this in silver (forgot the model #). Mine has USB and a firewire 800 port. Good drive. No problems.... except that I use it with firewire and it would go to sleep on my Mac and wouldn't wake up. I had to write a program that wrote to it every few minutes. I hear it is a Mac only issue and only on firewire.

With "mirror" in the name, I'd almost expect 2 x 2TB drives so the total would still be 2TB available. I'm sure many people who wouldn't know better would be unhappy to see their "2TB" external is only 1TB available. Should be called "1TB Mirrored Edition"
