Update: Newegg has it for $56 - $7 off with coupon code WDAHSU5 [Exp 4/18] = $49 with free shipping.
Amazon has the Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive for $50 with free shipping. Western Digital covers this product with a 3-year warranty.
If you can spend the extra $15, the 640GB WD Black drive would be worth it, with a 5-year warranty instead of a 3-year, and approximately the same price/GB.
It wasn't that long ago #1, seems like right around the time that 7200 RPM drives were introduced a 20-40GB was still ~ $100... though a couple years later we were seeing them $30-$50 after rebate with a free set of luggage or mini TV, etc. constantly from the office superstores.
i remember when I refused to buy a HDD that was more than $1/GB. I guess that still exists with removable media.
