I absolutely hate Western Digital. I bought a HDD from them once and it never worked after installing it. It made loud clicking sounds for the longest time until it eventually crashed.

I highly recommend Seagate, they are better made and always include a 5-year warranty.

So you bought a single drive that ended up defective, and now you hate them? Your name suits you.

They're loud but mine have never failed. But prevailing opinion says they suck.

I'm using a 320gb hard drive in my computer and it's SOLID! I am also using an external drive of 500gb, that too has not let me down. I've also used an 80gb in the past and i'm telling you, neither of these drives failed me. Failures happen to all drives, but it hasn't to me... yet!

I have both Seagate and WD drives. Both are just fine and I can't tell any difference at all with respect to noise. They are equally quiet. If you receive one that is noisy, something is wrong with it, period, end of discussion. WD drives have a 3-year warranty from date of manufacture and Seagates have a 5-year warranty. That's the only difference that I can see.
