Yep the whole problem is that normal people (the average user I should say) don't need a massive hard drive for their computer system... however there are no deals for drives they would want. Prices seem to bottom out at around $40 regardless of size. $50 for a 500GB drive seems to be the sweet spot for a smaller drive... but that's most likely 5 times the size they would need.
