I've got a WD Greenie in a fanless external case and it runs cool as can be. Nice and quiet too.

I'd rather spend a few more bucks and a few more watts and get the extra performance of the WD Caviar Black.

"Church of Fudge" and "Two Girls, 1 Cup" are fine examples of the "caviar" filth sub-genre.

Cost for drives is coming down nicely. I wonder if Seagates will ever be reliable again.

When da Egg offered this drive very recently I nearly bit on it, thinking it well-suited for an external enclosure, but the reviews were markedly spotty. Seemed to me that Black was the only way to go after the review of the reviews. FWIW.

Have two EACS and one EADS, absolutely adore 'em. And they keep getting cheaper, so I'll be postponing my next purchase until I really need it.

    once you go black.....

but seriously, go Black unless you really care bout a few watts, also Black is suitable to run programs off of, while you might notice the sluggishness of Green

Clearly green and black are not intended for the same market. Backup storage doesn't need the extra responsiveness of the black drives.
