Unless your building a big server array I don't understand why anyone would buy one of these "green" drives, the performance hit for a few pennies of electricity isn't worth it imo.

Newegg has the 1TB WD Black on sale for $100 with free shipping and no coupons nor rebates to deal with, a better deal imo.

No rebates required and it's $84 shipped... Who care's that it's "green"?

yeah the only performance hit is in access times. the sequential read/write is rather high because of the high platter densities of these drives.

    Price is now $95 - $5 off coupon + 0 shipping = $90 shipped.

    Nothing special here.

#1 - you are correct, you don't understand.

For NAS enclosures, there's no point buying a superfast HD as the bottleneck is the network. Save money and electricity with a low power HD.
Even in a PC, most people wouldn't notice a performance diff with Green HDs

You sure do notice the lack of heat generated by these! I had 5 seagate drives in my case and the thing cooked. With three of these, I could take all my fans down to damn near silent and it still is a cooler case.

#6 - Interesting, didn't even think of that. Think I'll pick one of these up for storage.
