Funny how technology and prices change. I remember paying $200 for a 1gb HDD.
I remember paying $1000 for one. Anyone remember RLL controllers. Double your capacity. Bulletin Boards. Amiga 500? My first PC was a Commodore PC-10 Colt for which I paid $500 to have a 30 meg hard drive installed into.
I remember in the 80's a compusa salesman told me, " 250mb is all you will every need..."
I recall Maxtor's ad campaign touting their drives cost about "$1 per MEGAbyte." At that cost $85 for 1,000,000 MBs seems like a pretty good deal.
How about an IBM 2315 disk cartridge: 14", 1MB (capacity, not cache), 1,500 rpm, 0.07MB/sec transfer rate, price... ? and it sounded like a chainsaw.
I recall upgrading my first computer from 16k of memory to 64k! wow was it a beast afterwards. No hard drives, just single sided 5 1/4" floppy with 180k or storage!!!
I remember scratching 0's and 1's into the hard shell of a prehistoric tortoise and training it to walk to my friend Grog's house. Once I painted a picture of a sabretooth tiger on it and wrote "0101100011011000010110111000101101000011000010111101000100000
011011010110000101011011010110111101110100011010000010110001001110101
0111001001100111011001110010001"
hey shadis, remember when Grog threw that rock at you with "011001100001011101000010110100101110100001011100110110100001100001011001000110100101110011" written on it? talk about low bandwidth trolling...
remember TYPING in your games from the back of BYTE magazine?? Then de-bugging for weeks after....
I remember posts like above everytime someone remembers something about prices of storage. BTW, these drives rock! This is my third in a 4-bay SATA to USB external bay.
WOW everybody knows this drive well. You people know alot about this drive. Thanks for the info on this I will buy it now.
Hey #11 -
Go F yourself. haha
I remember when #12 told $11 to "Go F [him]self. haha".
I also remember when I almost instantly reminisced. It was great.
I.. I don't know if anyone will read this.
Hey #1-6 and #9, thanks for the "memories"! They're priceless!
I have 6 of these drives. All have been great...
