Good questions. This one has twice the cache. - that's why it's costs a little more. Speedier drive.

#2, the Black Edition drives have 32MB of cache, newer on-board electronics (including some kind of dual processor setup), a 5-year warranty, slightly better performance, and a higher price tag.

I've built computers for years and have mostly used Seagate drives, but my few-months-old 500GB 7200.11 drive killed itself a few weeks ago and I decided to try a different manufacturer. I bought a Western Digital Black Edition 640GB, and so far it is performing extremely well. I like it enough that I ordered a WD Blue/SE16 640GB drive earlier today.

Sorry, #8. No one had any interest in buying a 500GB hard drive for $70 and didn't notice that Ben forgot to post the coupon code.

so, is this the single platter drive at 7200 rpm with hybrid ssd and 32mb cache and 5yr warranty? I would assume thats why it costs $70 and the 640mb 2 platter costs 65.

Well I got this cheaper a couple months ago. I had a friend findally come pick it up tonight. Looked at the invoice to see which price was cheaper and back in December the drive cost less. I always give him the lower price, but this drive is suppose to be great. Seagate has been making drives that fail more and more any of the drives ending in AS I stay away from like a plague.
