Pretty pricey for only 250GB. Give me double the GB for $90 and then we'll talk, Scorpio!
It's a notebook drive rodeo cowboy.
Thanks John, I was just about to same the same thing. I wish rodeo cowboy would not be allowed to register on here!
Broly is a notebook HDD deal troll. Every time. Check his posting history.
This clearly is not a deal. My desktop doesn't even accept 2.5"!
I upgraded my laptop (Acer 3004WCLi) from to one of these and saw a big increase in performance overall. Going from 4300RPM to 5400RPM was amazing, 7200RPM would be better but they are a good bit more expensive.
So I'm at Best Buy to get this drive earlier this week. The sales person sees me holding it and says "there's an external drive over here for $119."
"Thanks, but no thanks, I'm buying a replacement drive for my laptop," I politely reply as I'm thinking "what a dork..."
Then I notice the external drive he's holding is a 750GB WD My Book, on clearance for $119.
I guess my desktop needed an upgrade too.
Wow, somebody so dumb he benefits from Best Buy staff's advice.
base on the history.. seems like the price has been steadily dropping... I don't find any immediate need for this... wait is the best bet
i need a new hdd but am holding out for ssd...i might be holding my breath for a while though
I snagged this last week to upgrade my PS3. Good drive. Pain in the ass getting it from BB, though. Ordered and paid for in-store pickup. Then I was told the store I wanted didn't have it. Called in to get them to change stores, and they found one with it in stock. I went there to pick it up, and they told me they had my order, but couldn't figure out what buttons to press to 'allow' them to sell it to me.
Eventually, I just bought one from the shelf and cancelled the web order, but it was a pain in the ass for what should have been a completely straight-forward procedure.
actually #5, your desktop probably does accept 2.5" - sata uses the same connectors for 3.5 and 2.5" drives
Got the same drive in the external USB form last week for the same price. Put the drive into my laptop, then swapped my old laptop HD into the case for some spare mobile storage. Might be worth waiting if you can use the external case - I'm sure it'll be $130 again in a week or two.
Time to upgrade my PS3 drive...
#12 - They also make adapters for UATA notebook drives; people have been using laptop drives in desktops longer than SATA has been around.
However, you'll definitely need a bracket to make a 2.5" drive mount in a 3.5" bay. Alternatively, get some good elastic bands and try suspension mounting - it cuts drive noise to a whisper.
im holding out for a seagate momentus 7200rpm 16mb cache
these drives are awesome. i've got one in my powerbook and one in my dell. they are fast and super quiet.
hmmmmm.... expired. price is back up to 179.
