Seemingly so but that is not the case. Saving $5 by getting a free drink somewhere and saving $5 on a $300 car stereo are both the same deal since money is fungible. It doesn't care where it came from and its still $5 either way. So assuming you wanted to buy whatever item it was anyway and you do the same amount of work to buy the cheap item versus the expensive one, then saving $5 is still saving $5.

It seems weird but it really makes sense. We always think in percent of final price, etc. but really it is odd. Some may go a bit out of their way to save $5 on a $10 item but wouldn't go the same distance to save $5 on a $50 item. It's still the same work for $5.

#2, saving 3$ is always the same, but people expect more off from higher priced items. it doesn't seem like a bargain if it's just nickels and dimes.

especially since there are deals like that around.
