Don't forget if you use PayPal to pay, you get 20% cash back in January '08. That drops the price of this hard drive to $176 making it only $0.176/GB!
3-year warranty on this drive (since it's OEM) makes it an acceptable deal as well. Good advice, krunk!
dead deal?
Use in a RAID array to minimize worry of failure (but buy 4 so you will have a replacement).
This deal is a steal. but the downside is if the drive fails. you lost 1 TB of data. Knock on wood.
This drive slows itself down to 5400RPM when idle. That should equate to a LONGER lifespan if anything.
this is actually a terriffic drive, It's pretty quite too!
Wow, nice deal. I had $20 I'd forgotten about sitting in my PayPal account from last year's promotion so I'm only paying $156 for the drive in the end
Well... assuming that I don't forget about the cash back again.
Fun is over, now it is $280 with $30 off
Price changed already; $329 + free shipping now.
Anyone else find the marketting to be pretty bad? Why would you remind people of the "joy when this hard drive fails...."
#11, that is Ben's marketing, not Newegg's.
BTW, WD's 750GB is available for $149.99 with free shipping. Minus the $29.99 Pay Pal rebate and it is only $120. Better deal than this on a $ per GB level.

FYI, it's a 5400rpm-only drive. It does NOT change spindle speeds.
that's why with so much space, you should always be running it in RAID1, 5, 6 or 10.
WD is not a reliable drive. Loosing 1TB of all your collections of drama series, movies, songs is not worth it. Get a Seagate or Maxtor
