Well, it happened...
The long-anticipated, sub-$100, Terabyte hard drive.
That whopping 100-uses coupon ought to drive plenty of traffic to the site without a lot of cost.
#1: look back a week or so, the Samsung 1TB drive was on sale for this price at newegg.
Ben's specs are incorrect for this drive(as are Dell's specs). It does not spin at 7200 RPM. Western Digital's Green Power 1TB drives spin at about 5400RPM. So, keep in mind that while this drive is cheap, it's also somewhat slow.
This has been clearly posted on WD's website, and tested by several review sites.
Take a look on their website.
I think that the review website that tested the rotational speed of the 1TB model found that it spins at 5410 RPM.
It's nice for the environment and all but I'd rather be able to access my data nice and quick. Although I certainly don't do enough to justify a 1TB drive
F*ck Dell.
They'll probably cancel your order anyway. Wait and buy it somewhere else. Don't forget Dell charges tax.
F*ck Dell.
nice size for a portable e-sata rig to keep your dvd library ready to go
#4 - scored big on a dell bacon-up a couple years ago... they overlapped 2 coupons on a $200 200gb hdd... got the drive for $20!
yep tax kills this deal
How much can we expect it to be on black friday?
$75.00 on Black Friday.
Dell Specs on this drive:
Performance
Drive Transfer Rate 300 MBps (external)
Seek Time 8.9 ms (average)
Average Latency 5.6 ms
Spindle Speed 7200 rpm
The green drives are way great for NAS boxes and a Windows Home Server box - being able to do bare metal restore of a %*(%*ed up PC (or 10) is well worth building one.
well even if it's 5400 rpm, with the increase in density of data size... it doesn't matter as much that it's slower...
I own two of the GP series drives, and they are surprisingly fast. No, they aren't a Raptor, but they are cool, quiet, and pretty darn fast. Definitely recommended.
I thought that the consumer WD 1TB drive is only 5400rpm and not 7200rpm. WD does make a black, server class 1TB that does 7200. So which is wrong the RPM or the model number?
It's 5400 rpm
all of the WD GP Caviar drives rotate at the slower speed. This is not the black model.
well, that's true if you're comparing it to the speed of 7200RPM drives from years ago. However, newer 1TB drives from other manufacturers have higher platter densities. So, other drives have higher density and higher rotational speeds.
This drive is fine for some applications, but it's not the one to get if you want high performance.
Low power, low heat, great drive. I'd rather a drive like this (or the Samsung EcoGreen) which will last longer than a slightly faster/hotter/power sucking HD which has a higher chance of overheating and dieing.
oh man, 1 TB? that's quite intense
#14, you may expect a visit from the Secret Service for you remarkably clever screen name.
Even if you're just harmlessly stupid (which I suspect is the case), they do have the ability and means (and will go out of their way) to make your life a living burp hell for a while. They take baconnaise like this VERY seriously.
The idiocy of some people really astonishes me, even mouth breathing knuckle draggers like you.
These would be great to use to connect with a USB cable put your data on it and then unplug and store it away until your next backup.. If it only runs a couple hours a month it should last a few extra years..
# 18 - well said. bravo.
# 14 - tool.
