This is the green WD6400AACS, not the AAKS.
Ben's specs are wrong. The GreenPower drives do not run at 7200RPM. More like 5400RPM.
Don't expect blistering performance from a 5400RPM drive.
CompWiz17 You should go to the web site and look at the specs from dell. It states 7200rpm. Be nice if everyone would look before always saying Ben is wrong again. I see you have alot of post. Hope all is not bad info that you gave other people. The intellipower will bring it down to 5400rpm but it can when it needs it run at 7200rpm.
Hope everyone has a Blessed Day.
Benchmarks have proven that the green drives don't really go anywhere near 7200 RPM. Ben is wrong in this case in that he #1 lists the wrong drive and #2 trusts the marketing hype (Dell shouldn't say 7200RPM either - it'd be nice if "everyone" would look before always trusting what vendors sites said before calling "other" people wrong again). Not like it matters though since these drives are meant for efficiency and storage uses.
Hope everyone has a nice day while curtis pleases himself with a salami (he uses it in his cornholio).
#1 is right about the model number and also the price is lower than Ben says ($51-$53). Also the 2-platter design was new in 2008. The new design is 500GB platters. This does seem like a good bargain to me. It's cool and quiet but a bit slower than other series.
Hope everyone has a Blessed Day.
Intellipower does not vary the drive speed. It simply means that they set it for an invariable speed, somewhere between 5400RPM and 7200RPM. From the reviews I've read, whenever the spindle speed has been checked on these drives, it comes out to slightly above 5400RPM.
Western Digital has been trying to cover up this lower RPM for some time now. But, if you dig a little deeper into their website, you'll find this:
