Got this drive last week. Works like a charm.
Why? Regular sale price for 1TB is now about $70-75, hardly worth saving 5 bucks to lose ~ 1/3rd capacity. Plus, (if true), 320GB platters are going to be slower than 500GB, unless it uses the same higher density platters but short-strokes them which I doubt or they'd advertise it as a specialty drive, raid-class or something to that effect.
#2, Regular price for Caviar GREEN is 75 bucks. This is a Caviar BLACK. Different beasts.
Black drives work better for raid applications than the green drives.
#2 These seem to produce less heat than the terabyte drives too. Probably platter related somehow, but I appreciate drives that don't churn out heat like a 200 watt video card.
It's quieter Dave and faster than the seventy five dollar TB drives going around.
