This is a good drive. I have had it in my Mac Pro for over a year with no issues. This is the best price I have seen for this price. It comes with a 5-year warranty as opposed to 3-year for the green drive. The green is not bad either.

I bought this for like 100 way back, great drive, but of course, nowadays SDD is all the rage.

Considering a Seagate 2TB drive was sold at Newegg a couple weeks ago for $60, this drive doesn't seem that great. Granted, this one is 7200 RPM, but big deal.

I think those seagates have sucky reviews.

I bought 2 drives yesterday in Tustin, CA. Product of Malaysia, WD1001FALS-00J7B0 inside, date 27 OCT 2010. Checked on WD website. Drives have only 3 (THREE!) YEARS WARRANTY till 12/05/2013! However on box is stated 5 years limited warranty. False advertisement? Who knows what to do in this case?

apples to oranges #3 lol. This is a performance drive as #5 said. You would probably want to use this as a boot drive or very fast storage. The seagate you are referring to is only for storage. This is a great alternative to paying the premium for a SSD.

Hard to go wrong with a WD black drive. Excellent performance for the $. And $60 for 1TB is certainly a good deal (particularly for Best Buy).

Yes, I'll definitely return them. New models have 2 platters. I had Raptor 150GB that stopped to work after 3.5 years. Drives I've got have model number on the box WDBAAZ0010HNC-NRSN. See on Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136786 they also have 3 years warranty. Best Buy also has/had model WD10000LSRTL that probably with 5 years warranty: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136337. Best Buy had both (wrong choice for me). So if you still have chance to buy, don't select WDBAAZ0010HNC-NRSN. It looks like WD sorts them by some criteria how long they will work.

why is the model number different? the best buy link has this model #: WD10000LSRTL. whats the difference?

A year or so ago I bought the WD10000LSRTL from Best Buy for $100. My first was from Newegg and was an OEM bare drive with the WD1001FALS alphanumeric.

WD10000LSRTL is the boxed retail alphanumeric for the WD1001FALS.

In Windows XP, Device Manager lists the drive as WD1001FALS. Both drives have the 5 year warranty. Maybe things have changed from a year ago - I don't know.
