Newegg has the Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (Bare Drive) for $150 with free shipping. Covered by a 5-year warranty. Amazon has it for the same price.
... What? That is messed up. You can get a 2TB Caviar Green for $80 with no sale, no coupon. Sure it's a little slower, but so what? It's half the price. You could buy two and RAID them, or buy an SSD if you need speed.
#3, the burst reads from the 64mb of cache might hit that speed. Regardless, I wouldn't expect any recent high end mechanical drive to not have the best interface. This is just the company doing what they all do, marking up the high end models because the people that need to have "the best" will pay it. Everyone else will look at the price and go with the green drive.

SATA 6.0 probably conmmanding the price premium - 'course "Ben" listing as 3.0
Even though no current mechanical drive comes close to 3 Gbps. It's all marketing.

Only other notable thing is a 5 year warranty vs 3 year with the green drive.
People are forgetting the Blue series? There is a middle ground.
