You don't "lose" any performance on this, and it's not "stuck". It's meant for a different purpose. Yes, "green" drives are typically slower, which is what makes them "green". Not the best performing drive, but a great scondary/backup cooler-running drive... and Comp "Wiz", thanks for taking the time to verbosely repeat and convolute the experts that you quoted.... you were doing so well until you said something yourself...

I'm not taking issue with the fact that this is a low-power low-speed drive, I'm taking issue with the fact that Western Digital is using misleading marketing to confuse people, and think that this drive is faster than it is.

If they just came out and said "5600RPM", that's fine. They don't do that.

Or it is good for HTPC where speed is not so critical as long as you have smooth playback.

I'm planning to get up a Window home server with two drives. I'm debating between these and the 1tb WD Black drives, would I see much of a difference?

I've got 2 WD drives for about a year now and they have been flawless. Speed is no big deal for just a backup drive.

First the price goes up 24 bucks, then my order gets 'delayed' by dell. Sounds like dell might be reneging on the deal

#34: that's normal for Dell. This happens almost every time they run a sale. Be prepared to wait 6 months to get your drive.

This was yet another "Dell Deal".
